The Federal Government has commenced construction of a new National Control Centre for the Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO) in Osogbo, Osun State, as part of efforts to strengthen the monitoring and management of Nigeria's electricity transmission grid.

The groundbreaking ceremony took place on 30 September 2026, with Vice-President Kashim Shettima represented at the event and Minister of Power Joseph Tegbe in attendance.

The new facility is being developed to replace Nigeria's existing national control centre, which has been in operation for approximately 64 years.

Replacing an Ageing Grid-Control Facility

The National Control Centre is a critical component of Nigeria's electricity infrastructure because it supports the real-time coordination and management of electricity generation and transmission across the national grid.

The replacement facility is expected to provide a more modern operating environment for the Nigerian Independent System Operator, with infrastructure designed to support improved grid monitoring, coordination and system management.

The project comes as Nigeria continues to expand and upgrade its electricity infrastructure while dealing with the operational complexity associated with a growing and increasingly interconnected power system.

Why the Project Matters

The development extends beyond conventional civil infrastructure. A modern electricity control centre combines building infrastructure with specialised electrical, communications, control and digital systems required for real-time grid operations.

For engineering and technology companies, projects of this nature create demand across multiple disciplines, including electrical engineering, control systems, telecommunications, cybersecurity, data infrastructure and facility management.

For contractors, the project also demonstrates the growing convergence between conventional infrastructure construction and specialised technology infrastructure in large public-sector projects.

Nomarc Market Signal

Nigeria's infrastructure pipeline is increasingly moving toward assets where physical construction and digital systems are inseparable. The replacement of a 64-year-old national control facility illustrates the scale of upgrade required across critical infrastructure systems as the country modernises its power network.
